Alice Dolgener, born in Austin, Texas, has enjoyed living in Cedar Falls, Iowa, for over 25 years. She is inspired by her surroundings and often paints her favorite places letting the subject and her mood dictate which media she uses - oil, acrylic, or watercolor. Some of her recent works have explored more abstract ideas using multimedia and collage. Although she originally was an art major, formal schooling took a backseat to a career and raising a family until approximately 2000 when she picked up the brush once again. While she's mainly self-taught in art, Alice continually hones her skills through classes and workshops. This has given her the opportunity to study with many locally and nationally known artists. Alice is a member of Iowa Artists and a signature member of the Iowa Watercolor Society.
A note from Alice
"Vessels of Life", shown below, marked the beginning of my reentering the World of Art in about 2000 after a time of career and a few years of being a stay-at-home wife and mom.
It's meaning is this: our lives take different forms and serve different purposes throughout the years:
- The bowls - mixing, laboring, serving
- The pitcher - pouring out to others what has been poured into it
- The vase - just sitting there with dignity and grace - ready for flowers or ivy that bring joy to others
Whatever form my vessel takes throughout life, may it honor the Master Potter. Jeremiah 18:6
